Something to look forward to!

PROJECT SHINE This past year has been a challenge for everyone, and we feel it is important to have Something To Look Forward To in 2021. We know our Hope is in Christ and we want to make Him known more now than ever. We need your help!

Join us on Friday April 23rd as we raise funds for Project Shine’s work week during Project Shine’s Annual Auction. This event is the primary source of funding for Project Shine as we share the good news, invest in local youth and serve Akron homeowners.

Would you join with Project Shine in one (or all) of the following ways?

PRAY. God has been evident over the 18 years in this work and we want to continue to honor him in all we do. Pray for the planning of the auction and project week and all those involved.

DONATE. Every auction needs great items to be a success. You can donate an item, an experience, a gift card, a themed basket or use your imagination and let us know!

ATTEND. Attend the Project Shine 2021 Auction. The more the merrier! Stop back soon and watch for details regarding time and place.

SPONSOR. Local businesses can sponsor the auction and promote their company at the same time. Ranging from $100 - $500 you can have your business and message in front of our supporters including our social media followers and attendees.

Project Shine is careful with COVID

With dozens of participants and leaders working during Project Shine week, we're acutely aware of the challenges the pandemic presents. Safety is a core element of every work week, and we'll be applying more precautions for 2021. This will change some of the job selections, crew arrangements and plans for gathering. Be assured, Project Shine will implement every CDC guideline to provide the safest environment for everyone involved. As we get closer to the work week, we will present a full and specific COVID safety plan. We're excited to serve families in Akron this year in new creative ways!

While Project Shine finalizes the 2021 work week details,
below are CDC guidelines for all of us to follow so we can remain safe and healthy:

Covid

CLEAN YOUR HANDS OFTEN

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Covid

AVOID CLOSE CONTACT

COVER YOUR MOUTH AND NOSE WITH A MASK WHEN AROUND OTHERS

  • You could spread COVID-19 to others even if you do not feel sick.
  • Everyone should wear a mask in public settings and when around people not living in their household, especially when social distancing is difficult to maintain.
    • » Masks should not be placed on young children under age 2, anyone who has trouble breathing, or is unconscious, incapacitated or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.
  • The mask is meant to protect other people in case you are infected.
  • Do NOT use a facemask meant for a healthcare worker.
  • Continue to keep about 6 feet between yourself and others. The mask is not a substitute for social distancing.

Covid

COVER COUGHS AND SNEEZES

  • Always cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
  • Throw used tissues in the trash.
  • Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

Our History

God has blessed our efforts and deepened our passion.

The vision for Project Shine began in the summer of 2001. The youth ministries of Hope United Methodist Church and Goss Memorial Church, both of Kenmore, ended up attending the same workcamp in East Bank, WV. Neither group knew of the other’s participation. The coincidence was discovered when the guys from both groups ended up staying next to each other in the school from which the workcamp operated. As the week developed, relationships were forged and a vision of bringing a similar ministry to Kenmore was birthed.

After many months of prayer, planning, support from the City of Akron (and winging-it!), the summer of 2002 saw the dawn of Project Shine. The three day, four night event witnessed over a dozen lives impacted by the outreach ministry. Over 45 volunteers came together and impacted Kenmore. The summers of 2003-2019 have produced awesome ministry and memories. Making adjustments along the way, adding volunteers, and moving ahead with an unrelenting focus on Christ, God has blessed our efforts and deepened our passion. We look forward to serving Kenmore for many years to come.
